WRK501 - Quick Wins for SharePoint On-Premises 2013 thru 2019

The determination of success vs failure for all projects is whether or not what you have implemented is being utilized by the users. Better well known as User Adoption!! However, many wonder what can I do to make sure I’m giving the users what they want, what they didn’t know they needed but will make their job easier and something I like to call the “Plus A Little” and\or the WOW Factor! Quick wins are identified as things that are quick to do, take very little time to implement (low cost), and have a HUGE impact within the organization. In this session we are going to explore & build out different features within your SharePoint 2013 - 2019 environment that will make your SharePoint implementation the Rock Star of all projects ever implemented. • Promoted Links • Corporate Directory • Navigation • Collaboration • Search • Apps • Managed Metadata & Content Types • Modern vs Classic • Views Hybrid Example Site Templates

Governance plans designed to steer SharePoint's utilization tarnish over time, discouraging users from adopting the platform. This session outlines the reasons why SharePoint environments become overgrown and under-utilized and provides practical guidance on how you can assess your implementation and create a revitalization plan. We'll also review several real-world SharePoint turnaround stories, highlighting the challenges faced and the methods taken to revive user adoption. CM103 - Why (and How) my SP2013 IA needs to be redesigned for the future?

For nearly 2 decades we've created a structure of SharePoint site collections and subsites that allowed us to segregate users and elevate privileges without negative repercussion on other users and content areas. However, since the release of SP2016, and in some cases SP2013, Microsoft has shifted gears towards a flatter infrastructure, with new site collections being created left-right-and-center - and admins were left in a scramble to keep things locked down. This presentation is going to walk you through how to evaluate your current IA, suggestions on how to redesign it with a nod towards mission-driven design, and how to ensure your organization is ready for the next upgrade BEFORE the time comes, be it SP2016, 2019, or Office 365.

CM104 - Making the most of SharePoint Managed Metadata

When SharePoint’s Managed Metadata feature set was introduced in 2010, it was hailed as “revolutionary” and the most important SharePoint feature to date. Fast forward to 2020 – it still provides an awesome set of features that are woven tightly throughout the SharePoint end user experience. But, with all of the emphasis over the past 5 – 7 years on “moving to the cloud,” has it become an underutilized power feature? We believe so. Attend this session to take a fresh look at the Managed Metadata feature set in SharePoint and hear some stories of its effective use.

PWR104 - Use Your On-premises Data with Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Automate (Flow)

Microsoft Power BI, Power Automate (Flow) and Power Apps are powerful cloud tools that can take your on-premises data, stored in systems like SQL and SharePoint, to new heights. Using your data where it is now gives you the ability to invest in improving processes, instead of focusing on a data migration strategy. In this session, we will discuss the benefits of using the cloud tools and how workflow, analytics, and business apps can utilize your on-premises data. We will setup a data gateway, connect to on-premises data sources, and discuss how to use that data in Office 365 to create rich business solutions. You will walk-away from this session with the knowledge you need to immediately start using your on-premises data with Office 365.

AZR104 -Gateway Drugs: Power Apps/BI & Flow for on-prem, just the beginning. Now Azure Data Factory?

For some admins and developers, the demand for cloud capabilities using data accessible only on-prem has increased as many organizations continue to employ Hybrid architectures. To meet that need (and the security constraints that accompany on-prem data), the Microsoft Data Management Gateway gives us better integration to this data and in more secure ways, all while leaving it at the source. Coupled with the Azure Data Factory, your on-prem content can architecturally reach a number of connections never possible before by leveraging the unprecedented scale and compute power throughout the breadth of Azure services. This session will illustrate how to leverage on-prem SharePoint content to interface with and drive cloud services through the secure Data Management Gateway and Azure Data Factory integrations. We’ll cover the setup and configuration of the Gateway, the Factory, and our data connections, as well as some gotcha’s and pitfalls along the path to becoming a full Gateway/Hybrid addict.

ADM104 - Managing Data Recovery in SharePoint

SharePoint Server includes several content recovery options for SharePoint administrators, site collection administrators, and end users. Educating your users, and site collections and lighten the burden on your SharePoint farm administrators. Using Central Administration or PowerShell you can backup and restore your entire farm or components of your farm. You can also perform more granular content backups by exporting site collections, site, libraries, and list. SharePoint also provides the option of recovering site collections, sites, list and libraries from content databases that are no longer part of the SharePoint farm. With a vast majority of your SharePoint content stored in SQL Server it is imperative that you have an efficient way to recover items or entire databases as quickly as possible. This discussion will introduce the Best Practices framework that will allow your SharePoint administrator to configure SharePoint and SQL Server for quick content recovery minimizing the downtime and providing shorter yet achievable Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).

ADM106 - SharePoint Security: What Every Owner and Administrator Needs to Know

For many SharePoint environments one of the most important aspects of collaboration is the ability to delegate content security to Content Owners/Creators. This can drastically improve the speed of sharing reliable information. But for this kind of decentralized security structure to be secure the decentralized owners must be well trained and have a good understanding of how Security works in SharePoint. In this talk we will review how Permission Levels, Securable Objects, and Users/Groups interact to provide the basis for SharePoint's security model. We’ll also describe the relationship between individual Permissions and Permission Levels. We'll discuss how on-premises anonymous access is implemented differently than a regular IIS web site and some of the common mistakes that people make when administering security in SharePoint. Finally, we'll review how you can use all this knowledge to troubleshoot problems that arise when you try to secure content. By the time the session is done you'll have all you need to administer security in your site/site collection. You'll also be able to pass on that knowledge to others. The result should be a collaboration system that is both nimble and secure.
